Structured course or input-led start?

A structured app exposes lesson order, explanations and review. Dreaming Spanish takes a different route: its official method uses levelled comprehensible video, including a Superbeginner tier for learners with little or no Spanish.

Treat regional variety as a visible filter

Babbel publishes separate European and Mexican Spanish paths, while LingoDeer lists Spain and Latin American Spanish. Pimsleur distinguishes Spain-Castilian and Latin American Spanish in its catalogue.

A beginner need not avoid every other accent, but the main course should match the learner's most likely real-world use.

A balanced beginner setup

One structured course plus regular easy listening is a defensible default. Add live conversation only when the learner can sustain it without replacing foundational study.

  • Structure: Babbel, Busuu or LingoDeer
  • Comprehensible video: Dreaming Spanish
  • Audio-first recall: Pimsleur

Know when to move beyond beginner content

Revisit real tasks—following a short clip, reading a simple message or responding without a script. When controlled lessons are comfortable, increase understandable input rather than buying a duplicate beginner path.
