Duolingo pricing: Free vs Super vs Max vs Family

Duolingo's core courses remain available free, while Super, Max and Family plans change convenience, premium features and who shares the bill. The exact price still has to be read from your account and purchase channel.

No pay-to-rank scoringLast verified: Sep 7, 2026

  • Max features are not available equally across languages and devices
  • App-store billing and cancellation routes can differ from web purchase

There is no honest universal Duolingo price

Duolingo presents offers through accounts, regional websites and mobile stores. Currency, tax, billing interval, trial eligibility and promotion can change what two learners see on the same date.

For that reason this page does not convert one US or UK screenshot into a global list price. Open the offer in the channel you will use and record the amount charged now, the renewal amount and date, the trial end if one is shown and the cancellation route.

Free is the underlying course decision

The core language course remains usable without a subscription. Free therefore provides a direct test of lesson sequence, course depth and whether the app belongs in your week.

An upgrade can remove friction or add tools, but it does not change whether the course itself matches your target language, level and goal. Complete real outside-app tasks before paying simply to protect a streak.

Super is mainly a convenience purchase

Duolingo describes Super as the premium route around interruptions and limits, with additional practice benefits. The value depends on whether those constraints are actually stopping a useful course routine.

Estimate completed study time before and after the upgrade, not just the annual discount displayed against a monthly reference. If the free version already supports your planned minutes, payment may not change the learning job.

Max is a feature-and-language availability decision

Max includes Super benefits and adds AI-supported features such as Roleplay and explanations where Duolingo makes them available. The official help page warns through its plan structure that availability is not universal across languages and platforms.

Verify the exact features in your account before subscribing. Max is a poor purchase when the desired language lacks the feature or when the real gap is longer natural listening, sustained reading or feedback from another person.

Family value depends on active members

Duolingo says its Family Plan can be shared with five other users. Divide the actual renewal charge by the number of people who will use it—not the maximum number of invitation slots.

Confirm who manages the subscription, which premium tier is offered, what happens when a member leaves and whether every intended user can join in their region and account setup.

A four-line checkout record

Before accepting any paid offer, save four facts: plan name and users, charge today, next renewal amount and date, and cancellation channel. Repeat the check when switching from Super to Max or individual to Family because the new plan can change more than the headline monthly equivalent.

No discount is claimed here. A crossed-out price, countdown or third-party coupon is not treated as a verified saving without matching eligibility and checkout evidence.

Upgrade only when a named paid feature removes a measured constraint in the routine you already follow.
