Kanji system or reading environment?

WaniKani organises more than 2,000 kanji and more than 6,000 vocabulary items around radicals, mnemonics and spaced reviews. Satori Reader instead presents connected Japanese with contextual definitions, grammar notes, reading aids and audio.

These tools can complement each other, but neither is a complete all-skills Japanese course.

Choose the next bottleneck

If character recognition stops progress, prioritise a kanji system. If the learner recognises many words but cannot follow sentences and paragraphs, supported connected text is the more direct intervention.

Broader alternatives

LingQ can support flexible audio-text study and vocabulary lookup. Busuu and LingoDeer fit better when reading must remain embedded in a broader structured course.

Current price and free-access boundary
