German makes grammar support a buying criterion

Articles and adjective endings carry case, while verb placement changes across main and subordinate clauses. A generic phrase interface may build recognition without showing why a sentence changes.

Inspect a real unit before paying. Look for noun gender stored with the noun, examples across cases, explicit word-order support and review that requires production rather than recognition alone.

Pair explanation with natural German

Raise one difficulty variable at a time: speed, topic, transcript support or accent. German-language public media and specialist learning platforms can complement a paid app without duplicating its job.

Choose by the current bottleneck

Beginners who cannot yet build a basic sentence usually need structure. Learners who can read exercises but lose natural speech need repeated listening with a transcript. Learners who understand input but avoid speaking need retrieval, correction or live interaction.

The best purchase is the one that owns the bottleneck for the next planning block. Re-evaluate after six weeks instead of buying several overlapping systems at once.

A fair German app test

Use one topic that contains a grammatical feature you are working on. Compare whether the app explains the feature, makes you retrieve it, exposes it in connected speech and lets you return to the difficult example.

Also record offline access, the exact German course depth and the invoice interval. A broad language catalogue does not prove equal German depth.
